Governor Gavin Newsom believes there are 9.5 billion reasons people should be appreciative that the state is recognizing the stress and strain that families are going through. As reported by CalMatters, Newsom shared such comments at a San Francisco press conference at which he renewed a climate partnership with leaders from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. The “9.5 billion” referenced is in relation to the rebates being sent out to Californians to ease the gas pains we’ve all been feeling from bloating at the pump.
The rebates have started being sent out and range from $200 to $1,050. According to the Governor’s office, 8 million direct deposits have already started arriving in bank accounts and will continue to arrive through mid-November 14. 10 million debit cards will be delivered between October 25 and January 15. But that might not be all we’re getting via rebates. Newsom is also calling on fellow lawmakers to pass a profits tax on oil and gas companies, sending the excess money back to Californians in the form of more rebates.
