Governor Gavin Newsom is getting quite a workout when it comes to bill signing with today’s looming deadline and 500+ bills awaiting their fate. However, one of the most anticipated and controversial bills of the session surprisingly received the Governor’s blessing on Wednesday after he showed up at a vigil being held by the United Farm Workers union. The bill in reference would make it easier for farmworkers to vote in union elections. Prior to signing the bill, Newsom had strongly opposed it. But maybe it was due to the urging of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Latin labor leaders, along with the bill now containing “clarifying language” – not to mention Newsom’s presence as our nation’s progressive Governor – that he acquiesced.
