The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced its new hopefuls for flipping traditionally red seats to blue. Of the six announced, five are here in California. In order to be a Democratic priority, candidates must show their viability by hitting fundraising goals as well as having a strong campaign and field operations in place. According to the Los Angeles Times, many of the Democrats who are part of the Committee’s “Red to Blue” program are running in districts made more favorable in the redrawing of the congressional maps. The five California Democratic candidates added to the list include Dr. Kermit Jones, Assemblyman Adam Gray, former Assemblywoman Christy Smith, Dr. Asif Mahmood, and Will Rollins. The five candidates join Jay Chen and Assemblyman Rudy Salas who were previously named to the program. By being a priority, candidates will receive fundraising, organizing, and other forms of campaign support.
