Last week, Calpeek stated that the corruption trial of suspended L.A. City Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas was set to begin in August. This week, the court announced a new date – November 15. It looks like Corruption Summer will merge into the fall and give families something fun to chat about at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
But, please don’t be discouraged by the delay, there are plenty of items to hold your interest until then. For instance, the judge already sounds grumpy. Meanwhile, in another nearby courthouse, one of the three trials related to the former L.A. City Councilmember Jose Huizar has already ended with a guilty verdict for a developer. The results do not bode well for the former Councilmember or others involved in the bribery schemes.
