When Gas Pains are Taxing

As the S.F. Chronicle reported, July 1 will bring with it more than the potential of sweltering hot summer weather.  That is the date that a new 3 cent per gallon California gas tax will kick in – bringing your new tax per gallon to 53.9 cents.

As we’ve shared in the past, there’s been a lot of discussion in Sacramento about the best way to ease our gas pains, but suspending the new tax isn’t one of them.  Over the weekend, GOP lawmakers did unsuccessfully demand that the tax be placed on hold.  The deadline to pass such an act was Sunday (since it takes 60 days to slow the tax train if changes are to be made).
