“Ambassador” Garcetti Watch 2022: India…Indiana…or…Indio?

It wouldn’t be a week in Calpeek without an update on L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s nail biting confirmation to serve as U.S. Ambassador to India.  Last week, we reported that we weren’t sure if Garcetti would make it to India or only get as far as Indiana due to a second Senator, Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), putting a hold on his appointment.  Now he may only make it to Indio, as Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), who has been leading the charge to call the appointment into question, is indicating that there won’t be any movement on the issue until after the next recess, which ends in April.  In addition to Ernst and Grassley, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) wants more information on the situation and Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) has stated that she’ll be looking into this further before casting her vote.  Stay tuned as there’s bound to be more in the coming weeks of “Will he stay or Will he go?”
