Making the State Controller’s Race Fun Stuff

While most of the statewide races feature incumbents who will be easily re-elected, the State Controller’s race just got fun.  Well, interesting that is.  On the Dem side, BOE Member Malia Cohen and Monterey Park Mayor Yvonne Yiu have well-established campaigns, but now the guys  want in – L.A. City Controller Ron Galperin dropped out of the race for L.A. County Supervisor to run for State Controller and now State Senator Steve Glazer is in.  On the Rep side, we have Lanhee Chen, whose campaign website lists many current occupations and may be known to the voters because of his frequent cable news appearances.  Running as a Republican in a solidly blue state that hasn’t elected a Republican statewide in over a decade is quite the challenge, but Chen had $1.3 million in the bank as of December 2021.
